news – Who won the Oscars

The 86th Academy Awards night wasn’t one that offered a lot of surprises: nominees long rumored to take home the Oscars did, and some longtime favorites, like Leonardo DiCaprio, left empty-handed. Gravity won big this year and carried off seven golden statuettes, its biggest win the Best Director Academy Award, but American Hustle on the other hand fell away entirely. Regarding the Acting Oscars there was one small surprise: Lupita Nyong’o beating Jennifer Lawrence in the Best Supporting Actress category, but even that didn’t fully come out of left field. Cate Blanchett, Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto snagged away the Oscars for Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively. The Best Picture Oscar was won by 12 Years A Slave, the best Animated Film obviously went to Frozen.
